Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief (1 Thessalonians 5:1-4)
When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows (KJV Mark 13:8).
When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.” Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven (NIV Luke 21:9-11).
The end will not come right away:
· Wars, revolutions and rumors of wars.
Beginning of birth pains:
· Nation against nation – ethnic group against ethnic group
· Kingdom against kingdom.
· Earthquakes, cyclones, tornadoes, hurricanes and tsunamis
More birth pains:
· Fearful events
· Great signs from heaven
Jesus expects us to know…
When one day a group of religious leaders came to our Lord Jesus and asked him to give them a sign that he was who he claimed to be (the promised Messiah), he responded by rebuking these blind leaders by telling them: “You can discern the coming weather by looking at the sky, for you say that when it is red in the morning, bad weather is soon to come, and when it is red in appearance at night, fair weather is just on the horizon. How is it that you can discern the signs in the sky but not discern the time of my visitation?”
